Indian agriculture is a vital component of the country's economy, accounting for a significant portion of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and providing livelihoods for a large portion of the population. The agriculture sector in India is characterized by a diverse range of crops, including rice, wheat, pulses, oilseeds, and cotton, among others. Agriculture in India faces numerous challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, low productivity, water scarcity, and climate change, which have led to fluctuations in crop yields and income for farmers. Despite these challenges, the Indian government has implemented various policies and initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and income for farmers, such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY). These initiatives aim to address the challenges faced by farmers and help to develop sustainable and profitable agricultural practices in the country.
